Chicken BBQ in Rockingham County, Virginia

There is one thing we look forward to more than any other when the weather gets warm: Chicken BBQ!!! In Rockingham County, come Saturday morning there is a cooler of hot chicken at many gas stations and churches but only until supplies run out (well before lunchtime!)! While it may seem odd, visitors to Rockingham should not think twice about buying meat wrapped in foil off the back of a pick-up truck. It's a Southern delicacy and a bargain at $2.50 -3.50 a half. (that's half a chicken.) Plus, it supports our churches and civic organizations.

For the locals, it can be frustrating to find where the chicken is being sold before it sells out. We have earned a reputation of knowing where the best chicken will be and as a community service we're posting the 'when' and 'where' as groups give us the information. Also, we're hosting an online forum where you can rate the chicken you've tried and see which groups are receiving the best reviews.

Everything! We've just given our store a new look, with fresh paint and a wide-open floor plan. Look for new items, too! Also easier-to-use online store and we'll be featuring locally made, one-of-a-kind products in both stores.

We've added a "Bird Blog" and a "Lake Cam" for those of you who like to keep in touch with the wildlife at the lake. Just for fun, we've added a 'Cat Cam' so you can catch a glimpse of one of our four mill cats.
