If you are looking for a place to stay, consider The Village Inn.
The historic Town of Dayton is an attraction in itself. Many of the downtown buildings (particularly on College Street, which becomes Silver Lake Road as it leaves town) were constructed in the late nineteenth century as part of the campus of what is now Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA. An interpretive walking tour of Dayton, developed by the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Historical Society, can be found at this page on www. daytonva.com. Our little town and the mill were featured in Cooperative Living Magazine in March 2002. Read the article.
The Thomas House on Main Street serves up scrumptious home cooking, Jim's Drive-In on College Street features American fare, while La Casita on Dingledine has authentic Mexican food. All of these restaurants offer carryout, so you can bring your lunch to the lake and watch the wildlife. Silver Lake is inhabited by a multitude of resident and migrating birds, turtles, muskrats, mink, carp, bass, sunfish, and stocked Rainbow Trout. (Don't forget your camera or fishing pole! Virginia Fishing License required.)
Be sure to visit during Dayton Autumn Celebration. See more information at Town of Dayton.
Visit the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Convention and Visitor's Bureau, Harrisonburg-Rockingham Chamber of Commerce, Travel Shenandoah.com, The Shenandoah Valley or Shenandoah Valley Web to learn more about attractions in the Valley.
